Vastu for Home: Essential Rules Every Indian Homeowner Should Know

If you only remember a handful of Vastu rules for your home, make them these: the entrance should face a favourable direction, the kitchen belongs in the south-east, the master bedroom in the south-west, toilets away from the north-east, and the pooja room in the north-east. Get these right and most of your home is already in balance.

Entrance

North, east, and north-east entrances are considered the most auspicious. Keep the entrance clean, well-lit, and free of clutter, shoe racks, or a dustbin. A defective entrance direction can be softened with a threshold, nameplate, or Vastu pyramid.

Kitchen and bedroom

The kitchen's ideal zone is the south-east (the fire corner), with the cook facing east. The master bedroom belongs in the south-west; sleep with your head to the south or east, and keep the SW corner heavy and stable.

Toilet and pooja room

Keep toilets in the west-north-west or south-south-west, and never in the north-east or the centre of the home. Reserve the north-east for the pooja room or open, light space — it's the home's most positive zone.
