Vastu for North-Facing House

The north is governed by Kubera, the lord of wealth, which makes north-facing homes highly desirable in Vastu. A north-facing main door is associated with financial growth, career opportunities and prosperity. As with every facing, the benefit is real but conditional: the exact pada of the main door and the internal zoning determine whether that potential is realised.

The most auspicious positions for a north-facing door are the northern padas Mukhya (N3), associated with overall wealth and financial growth, and Bhallat (N4), associated with property gains and inheritance. A door placed in these padas strongly supports the wealth-giving nature of the north.

Keep the north and north-east open, light and unobstructed — this is where the home draws in its beneficial energy, so avoid heavy storage, toilets or a cluttered entrance here. Place the kitchen in the south-east, the master bedroom in the south-west, and the pooja room and any underground water source in the north-east. Cash, valuables and lockers are traditionally kept in the north or a south-west room opening towards the north.

A frequent north-facing mistake is a toilet or staircase in the north or north-east, which undermines the wealth-supporting zones. Keep those areas clean and open, and reserve the south and west for grounded, heavier functions.
